Ray Rizzo (born 19 Feb. 1971) is a percussively-inclined multi-instrumentalist, writer, actor, and maker of live shows and recordings. As a drummer he has worked with Bob Weir, Yo Yo Ma, Josh Ritter, Trixie Whitley, Bill Frisell, Julia Stone, Glen Hansard, Papa M, Thomas Bartlett (Doveman), Dawn Landes, Emmylou Harris, Tara Jane O'Neil, Sam Amidon, King Kong, Tyrone Cotton, Days Of The New, and Little Silver. He is a member of the bands Corporal, Frogbelly and SymphonyMesiko, and Java Men. Ray's work in theatre includes numerous collaborations with playwright Adam Rapp, receiving a 2007 Drama Desk Nomination for Best Music in a Play for Rapp's Essential Self Defense. He also played the role of Tig in Brian Mertes and Beau Willimon's epic one-day production of Balm In Gilead on June 5, 2011. In 2009 Ray established Motherlodge Live Arts Exchange, an ongoing live arts collaboration between the communities of New York City and Louisville, KY. Ray is a member of The People's Garden in Bushwick, BK where he helps curate community music shows; he is an active member of the board for Strive 502, a music arts and wellness initiative, and the founding curator of Three Ring Bender, a show staged every second Wednesday of the month at Three's Brewing in Gowanus, Brooklyn.
